In general, commercial infrastructure in western of Thanh Hoa province has invested in new construction, renovation and upgrade commercial centers in both quantity and size, gradually forming goods and services distribution synchronization, needs exchange, trading of the people of the nation, stimulating production support growth, contributing to socio-economic development and improve people's lives. 

Economic growth has average annual period 2006 - 2011 in this area reached 13.5%. Industrial production value in 2010 reached 1,918 billion, increased by 4.4 times compared with 2005. The service sector is relatively fast growth, added value reached 14.5% /per year. Total retail sales of goods and services in 2010 reached 3,685 billion, more than 2.7 times higher than in 2005. The value of exports of goods and services reached U.S. $ 35.4 million, compared to 5-fold in 2005. To date, 100% communes with special difficulties have schools, kindergartens and boarding class breeding population, the center has a remote base class, state school three cases are eliminated, the percentage of children in school age reached 95%, health significantly grown, over 90% mountainous with the culture houses or the post offices ... 

However, to integrate with the period of national industrialization and international integration in the period 2011- 2015 and subsequent years, the western of Thanh Hoa province is still facing many challenges and difficulties due to the low starting point and distance among regions are still many differences. Therefore, the provincial Party Committee Resolution XVII further identify key "Socio-economic Development of the Western is one of five key programs of the province in the period 2010 -2015." Also synonymous with socio-economic development of the Western is the responsibility of the political system in the province. In order to achieve these targets, the need to focus on some main solutions: Propaganda, encourage and support enterprises to invest in commercial infrastructure in mountainous areas. Concentrate on building the trade borders between Vietnam – Laos; facilitate border crossings become the mountainous trade promote central and development of the province. Develop mechanisms and policies "unique" with the consistency solution to facilitate trade development in mountainous areas further, implement successfully the objectives.
